This extricate shawl is hand-woven by Karenni women from the refugee camps in the Thai-Burma border. It’s made of cotton and rayon. These weavers are not able to read and write but have weaving skills that had been passed on to them from generation to generation. By supporting the Karenni women weavers, not only it means helping them earn a living for their family, it also means protecting a sacred cultural practice that may get lost in the face of survival in the camps.
